Questions Regarding the Magazine

It has come to our attention that several people are unsure of what the magazine is about and what they can possibly share.

1. What kind of work can I submit to the magazine?
You can submit poetry, prose, short stories, drawings, photograph's, paintings, and anything else you can classify as tangible art.

2. Does the work have to be my own?
This would be a very firm YES! You cannot submit work which is already published just because you enjoyed it. It must be something original. Plagiarizing is illegal and we don't want to put your name on someone else's hard work.

3. Do letters count as prose?
Yes, if they are poems or short stories written in the form of a letter they are allowed. Such as a love letter or an informational letter.

4. Is there any criteria for what I can and cannot submit?
You'll be pleased to know there is not! The name of the magazine is "Canvas" which encompasses everything you can put on paper or canvas. It is a broad topic so we can include any type of work submitted.

5. Will all of the work submitted be published in the magazine?
We are sorry to say this is not the case. There is only so much room in the magazine, but there is still good news! While your work may not make it to the magazine it may still be published right here on the blog for everyone to access. You may even find it in both places.

6. If this is a Literary Magazine, shouldn't it only be for literature?
In all honesty this does make a lot of sense, but literature is art and inspires artists to draw, paint, or photograph something of the same caliber. Artwork goes with literature hand in hand so don't be afraid to submit your artwork no matter the medium.

7. What if I can't think of something to create?
That isn't a problem! You can submit any work you're proud of, even it is from years past. Also, if you want something fresh you can try a few things to get the plot bunnies jumping. Soon we'll be posting little words which may inspire you to write or draw something to submit. I would even suggest: reading, watching TV, listening to music, going for a walk, or just doing your homework. Sometimes I get my best writing ideas when in the middle of a math problem.

If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns do not be afraid to contact us. We will try and answer every question as soon as possible. You can contact us by email, facebook page, in room D-30 through Ms. DeFriez, or even a comment on this blog!

Welcome to West Jordan Lit Mag! This is a new experience for those of us on the staff. You may have a few questions about who we are and what we do. Here are the answers:

Who are we?
We are High School Students just like you, students attempting to pull together a magazine which showcases the raw talent of everyone here at West Jordan High. Whether you love to draw, write, take pictures, or even enjoy sharing your poetic experience, this is the place for you!

What are we?
Literary Magazine may sound like a place for only showcasing writing, or things to do with literature. I can assure you it's not. If you draw pictures like the adorable fox with the world above, if you love to paint, do computer animation, or whatever your skill may be we will look at your work. You can be a master at the keyboard, a ninja with the pencil, or an artist behind a camera. Bring your skills!

What's our name?
This year we are calling our magazine Canvas, which you must admit is pretty cool. Everything before you is an empty canvas just waiting to be filled with your creative genius.

Where can I submit my work?
You can bring your work to Ms. DeFriez in room D-30, or for an even simpler way in this technology fueled world, we have an email! Just attach your work to an email and send it to westjordanlitmag@gmail.com and we will receive it within moments of your submission. So bring whatever you can and let your voice be heard!

Any other questions?
If you have any other questions for us you can contact us at the email listed above and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We hope to see your works in the future!

DON'T FORGET: You can come here for inspiration at anytime, we may even be holding contests for your work. So be prepared.
